Guoping Zhao
Chairman of the Academic Committee
He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a molecular microbiologist, and a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology. He is currently the Chief Scientist of Biomedical Data Center of Shanghai Institutes of Life Sciences, CAS, the Director of Expert Committee of Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, CAS, and the Head of Department of Microbiology and Microbial Engineering, School of Life Sciences, Fudan University. Since 1998, he has been involved in initiating research on genomics, bioinformatics, proteomics, and transcriptomics in China, cloning several genetic disease causative genes, initiating the sequencing of the Chinese microbial genome, and leading research on the genomes, functional genomes, comparative and evolutionary genomes, and microbiomes of several vital microorganisms. In 2003, he led the study of SARS molecular epidemiology and SARS coronavirus evolution, which laid the foundation for understanding the animal origin of the virus and its mutation pattern of the genome, especially key genes, during the transmission from animal to human. Since then, he has done some pioneering work in protein acetylation group, gut microbiome, synthetic biology, etc. In 2005, he was awarded the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Award, and in 2014, he received an honorary doctorate from Purdue University College of Agriculture. In 2015, he was awarded the 8th "Jiazhen Tan Award for Life Sciences."
Xiaoyang Chen
Chairman of the Medical Ethics Committee
He is the Vice-Chairman of the Health Ethics Committee of the Chinese Society of Ethics, the Chairman of the China Executive Committee of the UNESCO Committee on Ethics, Science and Social Development, and the Chairman-designate of the focal point of the Chinese member units of the UNESCO Agency for the Promotion of Bioethics Education. He has served as Secretary of the Party Committee of Shandong University School of Medicine and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shandong University Qilu Hospital. He is currently the President of UCB International Institute of Health Ethics and Health Law, the President of Shandong Institute of Bioethics, the Director of Health Ethics and Health Law Research Center of Qilu Medical College of Shandong University, and the Chairman of Medical Ethics Expert Committee of Shandong Department of Health. He is also the deputy director of the Health Ethics Committee of the Chinese Society of Ethics, the executive director of the Chinese Health Law Society, the president of the Shandong Medical Ethics Society, the Chairman of the Shandong Regional Medical Ethics Review Committee, the Chairman of the Medical Ethics Branch of the Shandong Medical Association, the deputy director of the Health Education and Promotion Committee of the Shandong Hospital Association, the external director of the Shandong Institute For Food and Drug Control, the Professor of World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Fragile Care. He was awarded the title of National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Mental Health Work in China, the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Medical Ethics and Bioethics, and the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress in Shandong Province.
